Position: Systems Engineer

The System Administrator/Engineer is responsible for designing, organizing, modifying, and supporting the company’s computer systems. The Systems Administrator must be well versed in core infrastructure technologies such as Windows Server, virtualization, Azure and Office 365, SQL, and related systems. Additionally, the Systems Administrator should have experience in the fundamentals of network design and architecture for these technologies, as well as project management experience leading new implementations in these areas.
Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization
Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage servers, and integrate automation processes
Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
Perform, test, and verify regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
Monitor networks to ensure security and availability to users.
Coordinate and/or perform hands-on fixes, including installing and upgrading software and hardware
Provide end-user support as needed while ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction
Installs configures, and maintains IPS/IDS, Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam, Anti-Malware, etc. for maximum network protection.
Maintains all data used for redundancy efforts and assists with remediation efforts as a result of test findings and risk assessments.
Assists with software upgrades and installations. Provide leadership and advice on updating versions and patches of server software.
Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business information systems, or a related degree
5 - 7 years of IT experience with 3-5 years performed as a high-level systems administrator
Certifications such as MCSE, CCNA, Sec+, VMware and other industry-related certification highly preferred
Experience managing Windows servers in a virtualized environment
Proficient with Active directory OU’s, GPOs, PowerShell, permissions, and groups
Strong working knowledge of file storage, NAS, SAN, vSAN
Familiar with cloud strategies involving AWS or Azure
Strong working knowledge of networking concepts (routing, DNS, DHCP, VPN etc.).
Understanding of security frameworks such as CIS, PCI, and NIST.
Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

Top Skills Details:
1. 5+ years of experience working with Windows Server, at least to version 2012, ideally higher. This person needs to be strong within network infrastructure overall, any network based experience is a huge plus as they use Cisco Maraki Routers. Virtualization experience is a plus but not 100% necessary as they plan on moving to the cloud down the road. They currently have 20-25 virtual servers onsite in the Roanoke Data center.
2. Strong understanding of Tool Sets- Meaning that this person understands what tools would be most likely to be used for scenarios like log management, security controls in place and meeting security standards. They are going to start putting a bigger emphasis on making sure everything is tight regarding security of their systems. They need to be able to meet compliance and regulatory standards in their environment.
3. Somebody that knows how to problem solve and with strong critical thinking skills. Somebody that can dive into things, figure it out, use stories, recent examples, experience that help them solve whatever is next. One of the initiatives is that he’s really looking to evaluate getting rid of the physical data center and moving something to Azure/AWS etc. somebody who might have gone through that before, project planner, risk management.
