Sr. Network Engineer

Job Description

This opening is in the Annapolis, MD location and will be part of their technology Service & Operations business unit. They are looking to expand the size of their Engineering and Architecture team. This person would be a Network Engineer working along side the Network Architects predominantly focusing on Project Based work supporting the other internal business units, who in turn support the customer.

Internal Description:
Global Network system is comprised of several private data centers and connects to the far reaches of the globe, in almost every country providing aviation, airport, government, and transportation connectivity. AGN provides private networking in a highly reliable, secure and available world-wide network architecture for mission critical aviation, transportation, and airports customers.
The successful candidate will serve as a member of the Systems Engineering and Architecture team responsible for assisting with and engaging in the design, development, testing and evaluation of network communication technologies products and solutions in support of the Global Network. Candidate must be familiar with advanced networking concepts and technologies, including routing, switching, application centric and cloud based technologies, able to plan and configure network communications systems based on Cisco platforms. Candidate must be highly motivated, able to work in a collaborative team environment, as well as independently.

Internal Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
-Serve as the primary technical lead on projects that contain moderate to highly complex environments.
--Develop and implement project plans within budgetary, schedule and resource constraints.
Lead and collaborate with other members of the Engineering team in the development of technical design solutions.
-Capture, analyze, decompose and create requirements for network systems, products and subsystems of moderate to high complexity.
-Use an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on customer needs and business requirements, to design, develop, document, test and maintain network systems ranging from the straightforward to highly complex.
-Author, review and maintain documentation during all phases of the system design life cycle as-appropriate and specified within documented process and procedure (Project Plans, Estimates, Requirements Documentation, Operational Scenarios, Design Documentation and Drawings, Sys
Acceptance Test Plans, etc…).
-Apply Security/Cybersecurity methodologies to network and systems design to provide secure services that support business requirements.
-Analyzes and recommend contemporary and emerging technologies for deployment across the global network system architecture that may be applicable in addressing product and market needs.
-Configuration and installation various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS, ACL).
-Author, champion and have strong opinions on engineering design standards and best practices.
-Act as a mentor to more junior engineers in all areas of the systems development life cycle
-Provide post-fielding support, resolving operational issues involving L2 and L3, in a multi-routing network infrastructure.

Basic Qualifications'
-Significant demonstrated Cisco experience along with related experience in Infrastructure/Networked environments with hardware (routers, switches, firewall, etc), designing, planning and implementing LAN-WANs using the industry standard technologies.
-Deep understanding of IP Networks, security and network management concepts.
-Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in data network technologies such as OSPF, BGP, IGRP,
EIGRP, VPC, HSRP/VRRP, MPLS, P2P VPN, VAN, Trunking, QoS.
-Experience providing solutions and implementing infrastructures requiring 100% availability, near zero latency, low jitter and response times.
-Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a productive and committed work effort, meeting deadlines and managing workload.
-Must be able to use independent judgment to make decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities the majority of the time, under general supervision.
-Must possess excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to articulate ideas in both business and technical terms (both verbal and written) according to the audience, securing and sustaining their buy-in.
-Must be able to clearly depict and convey understanding of technical design and architecture using a wide range of design notations and artifacts, as applicable to the audience.

Desired Qualifications
-Active CCNA or CCNP certification
-Understanding of formal configuration management processes. Working knowledge of automation and configuration management leveraging tools such as Ansible.
-Experience in performing tasks in computers with UNIX/Linux operating systems and working with telco providers using MPLS circuits.
-Knowledge of VoIP Telephony and of SIP with experience in voice network design to include SIP and
QOS configurations.
-Ability to take the initiative in driving technical discussions with the relevant parties and not wait to be invited.
-Experience as mentor\team lead providing work direction and guidance to other personnel.
-Knowledge of the Airport and Air Transport Industry domain s is desirable.
-A career path that has provided exposure to and experience of employing a broad spectrum of network and infrastructure technologies.
