Senior Wealth Strategist

Function:
Deepens and broadens relationships with high-net worth and ultra-high net worth clients and prospects generally greater than $10MM in liquid net worth by working with other wealth management team members and partners such as private client and investment advisors, and other planning specialist to identify, evaluate, implement, and administer wealth management strategies, tactics and solutions. Provides support as a subject-matter expert for fiduciary issues. May be the primary point of contact for the client or prospect, at times, during the relationship.

Responsibilities:
Apply advanced knowledge of estate, trust, tax, philanthropy, taxation, asset protection, Delaware Trusts family governance, multigenerational planning and other wealth management disciplines to deepen and broaden client and prospect relationships through the delivery of advice and guidance as part of the planning process. Has experience with investment disciplines used by the firm and general knowledge of credit and insurance disciplines.
Work closely with wealth and banking partners as part of a collaborative team to fully understand a client or prospect's unique situation and recommending both qualitative and quantitative strategies to address issues.
Consult with clients and prospects and their other advisors in development, implementation, and ongoing administration of their wealth management plan in areas such as, but not limited to, estate and trust, philanthropic, Delaware Trust, business succession, family governance and next generation planning.
Work closely with leadership in the Wealth Strategy Group, as well as regional wealth and banking leadership to promote our combined wealth and banking capabilities both internally and externally that may include local, regional or national initiatives as well as projects to advance and drive business results and service and retention goals.
Establish local networks and regional centers of influence that may include attorneys, accountants and others to drive new wealth and banking opportunities.
Develop and lead client, prospect, and/or internal bank workships and seminars in a range of wealth management and fiduciary topics such as estate and trust planning, philanthropy, taxation, asset protection, Delaware Trust, family governance, multi-generational planning and other relevant topics.
Author articles on relevant and timely topics of interest for our clients including but not limited to areas of estate and trust planning, income and transfer tax, philanthropy, business succession, Delaware Trust, changes to tax law, insurance planning, executive planning strategies, family governance and multigenerational planning, asset protection, and family wealth issues related to divorce.
Ability to analyze and assess highly complicated and undefined client and prospect situations to drive appropriate solutions to meet their goals and objectives.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years’ relevant industry experience and knowledge working with high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, including closely-held business owners, in the areas of estate and trust planning, wealth management/financial services, federal transfer and/or income tax, business succession planning or in a fiduciary practice
Highly consultative and advisory based approach to problem solving
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated leadership and problem solving skills
Exceptional analytical skills
Motivated, positive, self-starter
Excellent research ability in the areas of estate planning, trust and fiduciary issues tax, federal and state income and transfer taxes and law
Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to drive a client/prospect matter (or project) from inception to completion
Ability to travel including frequent overnight stays

Preferred Qualifications:
J.D Degree and admission to any State Bar Association and other advanced degrees and/or professional designations related to the industry such as such as LL.M (Tax), CPA, CFP, and MBA
10 years’ related experience in wealth management, high net worth and ultra-high net worth planning, working with closely -held business owners and families, and estate, trust, and tax planning experience
Significant experience working with closely-held businesses and their families and strong knowledge of succession planning strategies; and experience with international/cross-border wealth planning issues
5 years’ successful external focused business development experience
Significant experience working with individuals and business owners with $20MM or more in net worth
Demonstrated technical and consultative selling skills in financial planning disciplines and trust administration
