Marketing/Communications Manager

Compensation: DOE

•Develop and operate audience engagement and growth strategy for our nonprofit public media organization
•Manage and oversee team of two -- Digital Editor and Audience Engagement Editor
•Work with editors and reporters to create engagement plans and strategies to increase reach and impact for major projects and ongoing reportage
•Lead the Audience Engagement team to ensure all brand needs are met by scheduling the team to provide excellent service and responding to tweets, Facebook messages and comments in a timely manner, including during evenings and weekends
•Ensure all posts meet brand and quality standards
•Coordinate social media messaging across departments and communicate scheduling and priorities with the wider team and organization
•Liaise closely with Marketing & Communications department to ensure cohesion and sync across all public-facing digital channels
•Follow social media trends, test innovative ideas, explore new platforms and implement best practices
• Be a champion for leveraging data and using emerging technologies
• Identify new story opportunities

Job Requirements

•Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communication or related field, or equivalent experience, required
•5 years of experience managing social media accounts, preferably for a news organization
•2-3 years of experience managing a team required
•Strong news judgment and a deep interest in the news
•Prior experience using social media for philanthropy preferred
•Ability to manage short and long-term projects in an environment with shifting deadlines
•Strong project management experience, organizational skills and accountability required
•Deep knowledge of social media, SEO, website and email analytics using tools like Parse.ly, Google Analytics, CrowdTangle and Hearken
•Strong collaboration + communication skills and embrace of industry tools including Slack, Trello and Google
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
•Knowledge of AP style, impeccable grammar and copy editing skills
•Experience creating audio, video and visual content for social is preferred
