Manager- Retail Strategic Initiatives, Retail Deposits

BASIC FUNCTION:
Support departmental objectives by leading the team’s direction, hypotheses, analyses and deliverables. The incumbent will form strong relationships with managers in other functional areas to ensure departmental activities are aligned with the wider bank and setting the overall strategy when appropriate.
More specifically, the position is responsible for driving M&T’s retail strategy and investment roadmap as it relates to cross-channel integration and customer engagement. The incumbent will be responsible for facilitating internal change management, driving several large scale projects that requires coordination and collaboration with M&T’s digital bank, retail bank, telephone banking center and retail product management. The incumbent will be responsible for managing M&T’s strategic initiatives team.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Strategic Initiatives team will be at the forefront of a transformational change within M&T’s Retail Bank. The incumbent will be creating and overseeing a customer-centric strategy focused on evolving our internal operating model for a digital-first future. The incumbent will be responsible for developing the investment roadmap to support customer growth and engagement, prioritizing the retail bank’s business objectives with a focus on delivering a seamless integration of a digital experience into the retail bank’s current and evolving customer journey. Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for driving digital engagement in concert with current channels available to M&T’s current and evolving client-base.
Establish a segment-based approach to drive digital engagement. Provide digital solutions that reduce friction for M&T’s retail client transactional needs. Seek and invest in solutions that add differentiated value for more complex sales and advisory-based solutions that align with alternate channel strategies for the retail Bank. Build the reporting structure that sets targets, tracks success, and influences future investments.
Connects and collaborates with senior leadership from the retail bank, marketing and digital banking to coordinate investments, evaluate investment trade-offs and create reporting and monitoring functions to ensure a seamless experience for the customer across channel bounds and creation of results in the form of retention, engagement, and cross-sell.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Sets strategic direction for long-term change management. Champion the Bank’s investment roadmap, prioritize investments, and evaluate investment trade-offs. Participates in or leads cross-functional project/change management teams that may not be directly related to his/her area of responsibility. Able to gain consensus across the organization to accomplish change.
Maintains overall responsibility for all vendor management activities associated with the job, including risk management, reviews, evaluations and prospecting.
Evaluate customer and competitive behavior across all channels and identify emerging trends to improve retention, engagement, and growth. Review the impact of past decisions and actions to determine if desired changes occurred.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for managing a small team responsible for M&T’s retail investment roadmap.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 8 years banking or finance experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 12 years’ higher education and/or work experience.
Proven Financial Modeling Skillset
Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Candidate must have strong analytic, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Candidate should possess excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication, leadership and project management skills.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Able to present to executive management
Ability to be a team player
Ability to interact with all levels of personnel
Ability to work individually as well as a member of a team
MBA
Strong negotiation skills.

Strong communication skills.
