Responsible for the development and execution of strategic communications plans, activities and channels that perpetuate M&T’s unique culture, and effectively inform, educate, motivate, activate and engage bank employees.
Identify key strategic corporate objectives and oversee the team that develops, implements, manages and evaluates bank-wide and targeted internal communications plans to actively engage employees in the achievement of those strategic corporate objectives.
Advocate for improved communication practices and counsel executive management on ways to improve employee engagement and communication. Seek out and identify proactive communications opportunities that promote open and honest two-way communication.
Identify and implement next generation communication channels and methods,
Develop, implement, manage and evaluate a dynamic intranet platform, and drive employee usage of the intranet as the primary source of corporate information.
Work with others inside and outside the Corporate Communications Department to develop, coordinate and implement communications plans for Bank-related products, services, activities, decisions, policies, personnel, etc.
Identify different employee segments—e.g. by division, region, level, interest, etc.—and develop, implement, manage and evaluate various communications methods and channels to effectively reach those different segments.
Perform other duties as requested by management.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions,
salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This is a highly visible position requiring proven strategic and change management abilities, the capacity to effectively influence bank executives and employees, and exceptional writing and communications skills.
Manage 3-5 Internal Communications staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field.
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a professional communications position (employee communications,
public relations, etc.).
In lieu of degree, a minimum of 14 years relevant experience.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Strategic thinking and decision-making ability; proven change management skills.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Superior project management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to earn buy-in at all levels of management.
Excellent PC skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint.
Ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects simultaneously with high-quality results.
