Retail Store Manager

Job duties:
Responsible for meeting established revenue goals and monitoring budgeted expenses.
Manage the processing of goods and works with assistant managers to ensure staff is trained and that good customer relations are maintained by setting high standards of customer service.

  • Supervises and is the primary authority concerning processing of goods in a timely manner following the production system, including supervision, staffing, and management of remote centers
  • Contributes toward store profitability by seeking opportunities to increase sales, manage inventory and labor costs. Responsible for store revenue goals and budgeted expenses
  • Maintains daily and weekly reports
  • Ensures the accuracy of all cash handling and cash register functions. Ensures proper accounting for all store revenue
  • Maintains final accountability for store operations
  • Ensures the proper types and amounts of supplies are ordered and stocked
  • Trains and develops management team
  • Expects and encourages full participation of management team in accomplishing store goals
  • Schedules daily and weekly staffing requirements
  • Resolves employee complaints and concerns, provided ongoing performance feedback, conducts formal performance appraisals and counsels employees when necessary
  • Administers disciplinary actions under general auspices of the Human Resources department in coordination with the regional manager
  • Ensures all company policies, store standards and procedures are communicated effectively to staff and maintained and followed in a consistent manner
  • Organizes work throughout the store in a manner that facilitates efficient customer service and profitable operation
  • Ensures store appearance is properly maintained
  • Ensures compliance with all store policy and procedures as outlined in the Store Manual, the Employee Handbook, and the Worker's Compensation manual.
  • Ensures good customer relations by maintaining high standards of customer service as outlined by the customer service manual
  • Trains and develops staff in all aspects of their responsibilities, including adherence to all safety and company protocols and procedures promote a safe, productive work environment
  • Coordinates communication with transportation department for all merchandise pickup and delivery
  • Opens store on time and closes in a timely manner
  • Makes daily deposits

Front of Store Duties

  • Processes customer transactions by ringing the sale on a cash register, collecting payment, making change, bagging the merchandise and thanking the customer
  • Assists customers with shopping needs
  • Pulls racks for transporting clothing from the back room to the sales floor and places clothes on sales floor racks. Ensures that clothes are placed on sales racks with similar types of colors of clothing
  • Rearranges clothing on racks and items on shelves, removes items from the floor, dusts and pulls clothes from racks that are too full to ensure that the sales floor is kept clean, neat and properly displayed
  • Greets customers and receives merchandise, providing an itemized receipt, if desired
  • Reports known or suspected security and/or theft problems to other members of management

Back of Store Duties

  • May move goods from one area to another
  • Breaks down goods into appropriate bins of like merchandise
  • Examines shoes, electrical and mechanical merchandise and other non-clothing items to determine, appropriateness for sales floor, in accordance with established standards
  • Place salable clothing on hangers to meet established quotas. Hangs clothing on racks for transporting to the sales floor, keeping similar types of clothing grouped together
  • Counts and records pieces of clothing hung
  • Places unsellable clothing in appropriate bins

Other duties as assigned. May be required to travel to other stores on an as-needed basis

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Minimum of 2 year prior retail management preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Must be able to promote and ultimately be responsible for workplace safety
  • Able to handle customer/donor/employee relations
  • Proficiency with POS reporting procedures
  • Energy and enthusiasm to help others
  • An openness to learn and be a team player
  • An excitement for a career in retail
  • Must be able to read and comprehend
  • Must be able to do basic math calculations using a calculator
  • Able to regularly lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule to include weekends, evenings and holidays
